The Tool Maker is responsible for the daily maintenance, upkeep and repair of the molds/dies for the plastic injection mold machines on the plant floor.  He/She is expected to maintain and care for the molds/dies so that they are always in proper working condition.   

 

 

MAIN DUTIES TO INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
  • Responsible for the repair and troubleshooting of molds/dies when not working correctly
  • Work with the Injection Mold Manager in supporting the injection mold area on all tooling issues
  • Coordinate with necessary tool shops with regards to repairs and preventative maintenance that can not be done in-house
  • Negotiate and review all costs associated with outside tool shop repairs and maintenance
  • Assist with the maintenance and repair of injection mold machines that are broken or in need of trouble shooting
  • Order material and parts needed for tool repair and maintenance
  • Initiate and conduct preventative maintenance on all molds/dies
  • Attend necessary production meetings to acquire up-to-date information and provide input where needed with regards to the tools/dies
  • Operates all machinery and equipment in a safe manner
  • Fills out documentation as required
  • Responsible for keeping work area clean and orderly
  • Follows work instructions and procedures
  • Some travel may be required

 

PRE REQUISITE:
  • SCHOOLING:
  • EXPERIENCE:
  • At least 4-6 years as a Tool Maker for plastic injection molds/dies
  • Knowledge and use of an overhead crane
  • Able to use a lift truck
  • Able to send molds/dies out of house for needed repairs and/or maintenance
  • KNOWLEDGE:
  • Technical training in mold/die repair and maintenance or equivalent experience
  • Able to use hand tools, welders, lathes, drill press, mill, grinders, precision measuring tools, gauges, dials and/or other indicators to make sure molds/dies are working properly
  • Able to perform routine maintenance
  • Able to read and understand work orders and blueprints
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted
